Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to attend a seminar focused on supporting newborns and infants. I learned valuable insights and techniques to better assist our youngest patients—and their parents/caregivers—with sleeping, nursing, growing and thriving.
Here are three key takeaways from the seminar I’ve already implemented on my toddler (pictured above):
- The birthing process can be challenging for the baby (as well as for mom). For newborns, this may manifest as a head tilt due to a contracted muscle, or discomfort in the neck or ribcage.
- Your baby’s palate shape might impact their ability to establish a proper latch. This is an important factor to consider when addressing feeding difficulties.
- 50% of infants develop positional plagiocephaly (commonly known as flat head syndrome). Taking proactive measures can help prevent or address this condition.
Parenting is no small feat; and, as seasoned parents often share, it only becomes more complex as children grow. We’re here to support growing families every step of the way. Whether your newborn is experiencing difficulties with sleeping, colic, digestion — or you’re looking for holistic advice — we’re here to help. If you or someone you know could benefit from our care, give us a call.
I’d love to partner with you in ensuring you and your little one are thriving as they hit their milestones.
See you soon,
Dr. Del
